Dena Baron Smith is a federal appropriations and budget process expert who advises Invariant’s clients on proactive strategic engagement plans to connect with the appropriations committees and engage with congressional problem-solvers.   

Focus Areas  

  • Providing strategic advisory services to clients on how to best present their solutions to government challenges and secure funding opportunities.  

  • Developing and executing creative strategies to navigate the complex annual budget and appropriations process.  

  • Explaining to c-suites and investors how the whims of the congressional calendar affect revenue and sales.  

For two decades, Dena served as a professional staff member and subcommittee staff director on the House Appropriations Committee working for 11 different full committee and subcommittee chairmen or ranking members across seven different subcommittees alongside her Senate counterparts.  Most notably, Dena served as a staff director for the Subcommittee on Transportation and Housing and Urban Development, the Subcommittee on Financial Services and General Government, and the Subcommittee on Homeland Security.
